BRAC and it’s impact on Howard County Maryland

This Wednesday I attended the public meeting hosted by the Howard County BRAC Task Force. I wanted to learn more about how the Base Realignment and Closures will effect the local community that I live, play, and work in. We heard from each sub-committee except for the Housing Committee which is scheduled to present in January.
The addition of 22,000 jobs to the Central Maryland area will offer opportunities as well as problems. The Howard County BRAC Task Force has been planning for this since April of 2006 and are about to enter Phase 3 of their planning and preparedness process.

The Howard County BRAC Task Force usually meets once a month and they welcome the public. All documents and presentations are also open to the public.

Objectives of the Howard County BRAC Task Force
- Provide people living in Howard County information about the expected growth.
- Offer Resources to Howard County businesses in order to seize on opportunities and plan.
- To assist and inform the many Government Service Civilians, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Contractors that will be coming to live and work in Howard County.
- To create a mechanism to communicate between everyone that will be effected by growth in Howard County and surrounding areas.
Stay tuned for my upcoming series on each sub-committee and their findings. In particular I will be commenting on how each issue effects our county as well as the Howard County real estate market. I have also provide this information on BRAC issues in Maryland and I have volunteered to help the task force going forward. I am hoping to use my time, experience, and expertise to help Howard County continue to be a great place to live.

Here in the Dothan area, we have been dealing with BRAC as well with Fort Rucker just a few miles down the road. Hopefully your folks in the Howard County, Maryland area will be diligent and make the necessary preparations. It sounds like there may be some opportunities for a top notch real estate professional such as yourself!
