What does real estate and goose hunting have in common?

IMG_2659

I landed back home in Ellicott City today, thankful for the wonderful morning.

The weather was unusually warm, we were among friends, and we were on vacation.

This picture shows daybreak and our decoy’s set up .

Fly over to the next page for video, and my bird brained answer to the question: What does real estate and goose hunting have in common?

IMG_2679

I like to hunt geese and ducks once or twice a year with my good friend Guy. We have a lot of hunting experience and we follow all of the safety rules. We eat everything that we harvest and have the utmost respect for nature. The Eastern Shore of Maryland has some of the finest Waterfowl hunting in the world. If you are every visiting the Eastern shore I recommend touring The Ward Museum

So, What does Goose Hunting and Real Estate have in common?

Real Estate Agents are like Hunting Guides. We expect our guide to:

  1. Have have access to the “best locations” so that we get the most for our money. Just like an agent having knowledge of the best neighborhoods. For example, you may want to compare market data and statistics between the cities of Ellicott City and Columbia Maryland. Hunting guides do their market research too so they can provide the best experience.
  2. Set up the decoy’s properly to attract other geese. Exactly like marketing your property to attract buyers. Does your agent use the most effective tools to market your home? Or are they just “winging it?” Pun intended.
  3. Know the language and process and move the transaction along. Real estate agents have access to key professionals that will help you achieve your goals with less stress and more money in your pocket. We can explain the contract to you in a language you understand. I know nothing about the behavioral traits of geese. I count on my guide to help.
  4. Do a lot of the grunt work. Our guide works a lot of hours behind the scenes taking care of us as clients. Agents do the same thing, often un-recognized. It’s paperwork, title work, inspections, contingencies, customer service, and the list goes on. We love helping people and we don’t complain about the ministerial acts performed each day.
  5. Our guide is compensated fairly for the value and service that he provides us. Successful agents should be paid in proportion with the value they provide.

I hope you had fun with that hunting inspired analogy. To prove my point watch this video. Since neither Guy or I have practiced thousands of hours on how to “talk” with geese we could never successfully hunt for them. We did the smart thing and hired a professional.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!

  1. Excellent analogy of a Realtor as a guide through the transaction. What is is especially important is our behind the scenes work which is constant, providing our clients with exceptional representation. Maryland residents are fortuanate to have an advisor like you.
